NEWS FEED

For the third consecutive year, Hyde Park hosted the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series. And the 2011 event exceeded everything that triathlon in the UK has seen before. The world’s best triathletes had the last opportunity to test themselves on the proposed 2012 Olympic Triathlon Course while 4,500 amateur triathletes got the chance to race in the same place and savour the atmosphere of the venue.

I was team mechanic for GB’s elite, and it was my job to ensure that the bikes were in perfect condition, and fix any problems that may occur. We did have one small problem with the gear hanger on Vicky Holland’s bike which was quickly rectified. Altogether it was a fantastic result for the team with Alistair and Jonny Brownlee coming first and third respectively (1 hr 50.09) split only by the Russian Alexander Bryukhankov. Helen Jenkins won the ladies event in 2hr 00.34, Jodie Stimpson came 14th, and Vicky Holland 17th. See the full results here
